Explorer’s Vision

We are a child-initiated play-based setting, encouraging children to explore open-ended resources that promote enquiry.

The environment has a sense of Hygge, meaning it’s calm and tranquil, which allows children to feel safe, comfortable and nurtured and thus they are open to learning. We use authentic resources that provide a variation of textures, smells and uses, where possible using natural objects. This helps to spark curiosity and conversation and simultaneously promotes care and respect for resources and our world.

The children are encouraged to take risks, developing resilience and a growth mind set, consequently preparing them for the future. We have spent time making our outdoor area, accessible and adaptable to provide a varied and engaging learning experience for children. They can use recycled materials to build, construct, imagine and climb, developing gross motor skills and social skills alongside many other areas of learning.

Our practitioners provide experiences and learning opportunities that capture the children’s interest, which we build and extend on drawing from the Early Years Foundation Stage and Development Matters curriculum, ensuring the children make progress in all areas throughout their time in Explorers. We have a holistic approach, making sure there is a balance of all areas of learning within the indoor and outdoor learning environments.

All of our staff are highly trained in early years and we have a qualified teacher in every session, which enables the staff to capture teachable moments throughout the day that are purposeful and relevant for the development of each child. Our language and number rich environment allows children to develop their early literacy and numeracy skills, alongside social, imaginative and physical play. We strive to create caring and strong relationships with each child and their parents, cultivating a culture of respect and care for each other and our environment.

As part of our ethos and provision, we provide frequent practical experiences such as cooking, tool and tinkering skills, forest school, messy and sensory play. We believe that some of the best learning experiences lead to a bit of clearing up after, which of course the children participate in, therefore messy clothes are a sign of a productive day. The wide variety of exciting learning opportunities combined with the effective scaffolding from our staff leads to children developing their communication and language skills to negotiate, imagine and question, consequently extending their vocabulary and learning.

Throughout the setting, we wish to promote a sense of awe and wonder within children, as this leads to curious learners and a life-long love of learning. Our ambition for all children is that they develop into confident and inquisitive learners who have the skills and foundations in place to flourish and thrive as they continue on their learning journey.

My son absolutely loved nursery from day one and has always been happy to go in. The staff are amazing and extremely caring and nurturing.
They really focus on independence and encourage the children to become resilient learners and to learn a good growth mind set. My son has come on in leaps and bounds and his speech which was poor has improved beyond everyone’s expectations.
I highly recommend Littleton Explorers to anyone.

We felt really at ease leaving my son, the staff made him feel comfortable on his first day. He couldn’t wait to go back.

My son always comes home enthusiastic, I’ve really noticed a big change in his behaviour, learning and communication. I am very pleased with Littleton Explorers.
