Design and Technology
Design and Technology
Through our Design and Technology curriculum at Littleton, we want our children to use their creativity and imagination to design, make and evaluate products for a range of real-life challenges. We believe that the process of thinking and creating that underpins Design and Technology enables children to develop their planning, perseverance and reflection skills alongside creativity and design skills
We are fortunate to be situated very close to Shepperton Studios and we are developing links with this local landmark to enhance our Design and Technology learning and engage our children with Design and Technology in their community.
The children are encouraged to take risks and be resourceful to promote an ‘outside of the box’ approach to problem solving. The children acquire technical knowledge and skills through the progressive study of structures and mechanisms across the school. Opportunities to engage in food preparation and cooking are provided regularly to promote an awareness of nutrition and healthy eating, which will improve both their physical and mental health.
When a Littleton Design and Technology expert leaves Year 2 they will have experienced the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products for a purpose. A Littleton Design and Technology expert will be able to select the appropriate materials needed and evaluate the functionality of the product they have designed and created.
